Guest House Environmental Policy
-
We at Guest House recognize our responsibility to provide a beautiful and functional facility that also stewards the environment in which it operates. In January 2010, Guest House became the eighth facility in the State of Connecticut to become certified as a “Green Lodging” facility.
-
Our Aims
-
• Reduce waste
• Reuse and recycle all possible products and materials
• Reduce energy usage
• Minimize water consumption
• Decrease pollution
• Use natural, organic, and chemical-free cleaning products and ingredients -
Our Methods
-
• Employee awareness, training, and feedback. Guest House conducts regular staff meetings at which we discuss new environmental policies and systems and evaluate our progress.
• Customer awareness and feedback. For a complete list of the steps we’re taking, we invite you to examine our environmental workbook from the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection that is available at the front desk. If you have suggestions for how we can improve our conservation efforts, please include comments on your evaluation at the end of your stay at Guest House.
• Purchasing policies and supplier relationships. Guest House works hard to purchase recycled and reusable office products and toiletries, as well as local and organic food whenever possible. We also grow some of our own herbs, flowers, gourds, and decorations.
• Facilities management. Our Facilities Director works to ensure optimum efficiency in all building systems and machinery, including using a multi-zone heating and cooling system, a low-chemical dish machine, low or no VOC paints, and compact fluorescent lighting in most locations.
