A Free Class, Open to the Community
Wednesdays, June 23, 2010 – September 1, 2010, from 7 to 8:15 PMPlease note our Summer Schedule: Classes will not be held on July 7, July 28, August 18 or August 25.
Class Description: In our daily lives, our minds are constantly moving towards what we want and away from what is difficult. We restrict our attention in this way in order to survive and to attempt to avoid suffering. But it is possible to have a more relaxed view of what happens in our experience—a clearer and more accepting approach to our daily lives. In meditation, we learn to witness this natural movement of the mind and feelings without identifying with it and without trying to change our experience. This witnessing can allow us to be more focused, more present, and more open to the truth of our experience.
In this class, we will teach and work with a meditation focused on a particular center in the body that helps cultivate Presence and carry it into the world. There will be short talks and readings, meditation instruction and practice, and discussion of the process of meditation. This class is suitable both for people curious and new to meditation as well as those with more experience who wish to practice within a group setting. Please wear comfortable clothing. Both zafus and chairs will be available. Tea will be available afterwards.
