  • Living a Life that Matters:

  • Integrating Action and Realization to Unfold Our Potential

  • With Zen Master Bernie Glassman and Diamond Approach® teacher Walter Link

  • May 10 – 12, 2013

  • Program Description:

Bernie and Walter bring the depth of inner work into the world—bearing witness to the wholeness of human experience and empowering our potential to serve.

In this workshop they will engage each other and the participants in an experiential inquiry to discover how the practices and wisdom of Zen and the Diamond Approach® support action and how such service deepens our realization. The inner and outer often remain split. Their integration can take us deep into our individual and collective potential. It unifies our lives and heals the world. It is at the core of our greatest problems and our most promising opportunities. It is a global as well as very personal journey. How do you deepen and bridge the diverse aspects of your life? How does your action support your realization, and vice versa?

We will explore these and other questions with the help of transformative inquiry and awareness practices, dharma talks and interactive leadership practices that are applicable to everyday life.

He is a world-renowned pioneer in the American Zen Movement, a spiritual leader, published author, accomplished academic and successful businessman with a PhD in Applied Mathematics. He is the founder of the Zen Peacemakers. Walter Link chairs the Global Academy Foundation, the Global Leadership Network and Global Leadership Media. His Inspired Pragmatism approach integrates the depth of inner and interpersonal work with organizational and societal transformation. In diverse cultures his work with senior leaders, their organizations and networks demonstrates that this integration empowers them to become more humane and creative, effective and sustainable. Inspired Pragmatism builds on 30 years of Walter’s own hands-on leadership of international businesses, educational and civil society organizations as well as on his immersion in Buddhism and the Diamond Approach®, alongside other Eastern and Western wisdom traditions, psychology and brain science. Walter coaches leaders as diverse as Isabel Allende and the executives of Triodos, Europe’s leading sustainability bank. He advises organizations like ForestEthics and Sarvodaya, which works with millions of villagers in Sri Lanka to integrate spiritual and societal development. He co-founded SVNE and Empresa, the first regional corporate responsibility networks in Europe and Latin America, as well as the U.S.’s first fully accredited MBA in Sustainable Management. Through his books and television series The Heart of Leadership, he explores how inner work seeds success in such personalities as Brazil’s prime minister and astronaut Edgar Mitchell. Walter worked closely with Alia Johnson to develop Guest House, the “Presence in Action” program and Inspired Pragmatism. (www.glnet.org; www.globalacademyfoundation.org)
